Should a labor union who represents government employees remain in place if they don’t represent a majority of the employees? Many government unions claim to represent the majority of employees within various departments, but it is difficult to know if that is true.

House Bill 285 from Representative Teuscher requires public employee unions to recertify every three years that they represent a majority of the employees. The bill also prevents the direct payment of union dues from the government entity.

The entanglement of public employee unions and government departments needs to be separated to ensure that the interests of the people are maintained over the interests of the unions. House Bill 285 does that.
