Tuttle Twins Business Manager

The Tuttle Twins is seeking an entrepreneurially minded business manager to lead, manage and oversee all operations of the company, manage an budget in excess of $7,000,000, and help the company establish an unassailable consumer brand.

This role requires creating and improving a variety of KPIs to increase organizational effectiveness to support ongoing rapid business growth and helping to shape the evolving strategic vision of the company. We operate with a lean team! The ideal candidate is someone who can quickly understand strategy and vision and execute it, building a team as necessary to scale our operations and hit our target goals.

The Tuttle Twins is an initiative of Libertas Institute, a free market think tank based in Utah. Through this project we educate the rising generation (and their parents!) about the ideas of a free society: entrepreneurship, property rights, free speech, personal responsibility, sound money, individual liberty, and more. Our books have sold over 4 million copies, are translated into a dozen languages, and are now being turned into a cartoon series.

Our aim is to teach millions of families the empowering ideas of freedom and support them through books, curriculum, a podcast, cartoon, games, and more to have elevated family discussions about how the world works. We aim to triple our annual revenue (and thus the number of books we’re distributed and families we’ve educated) in the next three years.

This is a full time position based in Lehi, Utah (where our fulfillment center and Connor are located). There will be in-office expectations but much of the time the position can be remote.

Your responsibilities will be:

  • Warehouse operations. Work with warehouse management to oversee employment of 20-30 workers, reduce costs, improve efficiency and process, manage buildout of and relocation to new warehouse space in Lehi.
  • Customer service. Develop and track KPIs for customer service team, ensure redundancy and knowledge sharing, improve efficiency and process.
  • Book translations. Coordinate the publication of our books in additional languages, working with foreign partners and publishers. Finalize files in InDesign, work with translation contractors, and identify new partners to increase our global footprint.
  • School outreach. Manage our new curriculum specialists to identify opportunities for book distribution into schools and libraries across the country. Develop KPIs and benchmarks, provide support and training to the new team.
  • Data tracking. Develop a KPI dashboard to provide regular updates on all aspects of business operations.
  • Professional development. Identify training opportunities for members of the Tuttle Twins team and coordinate/monitor professional development efforts.
  • International expansion. Create and execute plans to advertise and distribute books in other countries.
  • Build an Academy. Oversee creation of an online course product including managing creators, course development, video production, and all necessary logistics.
  • Launch an annual event. Create a plan to operate a yearly conference for our community.
  • Execute new projects. Take new ideas outlined by the CEO and execute all operational aspects in a dynamic environment of innovative product development.
  • Conduct market analysis to identify challenges and opportunities for growth
  • Evaluate and adjust plans as frequently as necessary for optimization
  • Attract, develop and retain a high-performing team based on strengths, talents, group dynamics and business needs and provide clear direction, feedback, and development to direct reports

You are a good fit if you:

  • Have 5+ years of operational/managerial experience in a small/medium business.
  • Passionately agree with and want to help achieve the Tuttle Twins initiative’s mission.
  • Obsess over details and use data to strategically inform your decisions and proposals.
  • Have a strong track record of independently and proactively identifying bold and creative new initiatives, building a strong business case for them, and leading their implementation.
  • Are comfortable working in fast-paced, high-growth environments where multiple projects are ongoing at once, each with different timelines.
  • Possess an entrepreneurial spirit with relentless passion for your work, and a desire to build something unique with a team of talented colleagues.
  • Have managed teams and overseen accountability efforts to inspire people to operate at their best.
  • Are emotionally intelligent and keenly aware of culture.

You’ll do great if:

  • During the first month, you learn and evaluate.
    • Shadow Connor, learn deeply about the history of the initiative, how it has developed over time, what it looks like today, and where it’s going — all aspects, including production and publishing, marketing, fulfillment, customer service, and more.
    • You will do all this with an eye towards mastery of the entire initiative before attempting to address challenges and improve processes.
  • During the second month, you create alignment and identify opportunities.
    • Consult more deeply with each direct report to understand pain points and opportunities to potentially clarify, improve, and excel.
    • Create baseline KPIs and a reporting dashboard to monitor progress towards our organizational goals.
    • Formulate and circulate for review proposals designed to position our team for greater success.
  • During the third month, you execute and harvest early wins.
    • Proactively implement strategies that successfully improve our KPIs.
    • Establish credibility with the CEO and direct reports based on early wins.
  • Within the first year, you will have:
    • Overseen the clear and consistent increase in each KPI.
    • Demonstrably positioned the team for success across the board.
    • Cultivated deep trust from the CEO to execute on existing and new projects.
