  • HB385: Mentally Ill Offenders Amendments (2023)
    This bill allowed judges to defer sentencing for up to a year if a defendant was mentally ill when he committed a crime. The judge can then sentence the defendant based not only on the crime, but whether he has demonstrated a commitment to addressing the underlying mental illness.

    This bill passed both chambers unanimously. Libertas supports a "yea" vote.
